Earlier, on the birth anniversary of Sanjeev Kumar on Saturday, Shabana shared that the late actor once pulled her leg when she told him that she is a hardworking actress.

While Sultan continues to enjoy a healthy run in Pakistani cinemas, other international and domestic releases have not fared so well at the local box office.

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma-starrer Sultan has earned Rs 150 million on the first five days of its release, setting a new record of doing the best business on Eid days.

According to the Geo Films, the distributors of Sultan in Pakistan, the Indian film directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, has eclipsed the opening weekend record set by Pakistani movie “Jawani Phir Nahi Ani (JPNA)” on Eidul Azha last year.

“One advantage ‘Sultan’ had over previous films including ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ was that it was released over a five-day weekend because of Eid holidays,” said Muhammad Nasir of Geo Films. “And with tickets for the first five days of screening already being sold in advance ‘Sultan’ has crossed Rs 150 million by today (Sunday),” he added.

Since the release of action film “Bodyguard” in 2011, Salman Khan has established a near invincible dominance over the Eidul Fitr weekends. Released on July 6, the first day of Eid, “Sultan” earned Rs 35 million and Rs 41 million on its first and second day, respectively.

With exhibitors showing a preference to screen “Sultan”, both of the other movies were released on a limited number of screens. Unlike “Sultan”, which was released on 75 screens, “Finding Dory” was shown in only 15 cinemas (25-30 screens) with its box office collections amounting to Rs 3 million after the first two days.

The other Hollywood films, which were released along with “Sultan” on Eid were “Ice Age: Collision Course”, “The Legend of Tarzan” and “The Secret Life of Pets”.

“During Eid, lower or middle class families enjoy gatherings and they rush to single screens and an action film starring Salman Khan is the perfect choice for a fun outdoor gathering,” Nasir said.

The film is doing blockbuster BO business abroad. Sultan was released on 4,500 screens in India and 1,100 screens in the rest of the world. The BO aggregator Deadline reported that outside India, Sultan set the biggest opening day and weekend ever for Bollywood in the UAE-GCC and the fastest to $5M (in five days). Pakistan likewise saw the biggest opening day and weekend ever and a speed record to $1 million (in three days). The UK and Ireland had the top opening day and weekend ever, and Australia and New Zealand also set debut weekend records

In Pakistan, the film earned over Rs 15 crore in five days, having eclipsed the 2015 opening weekend record set by Pakistani movie Jawani Phir Nahi Ani last year.

The intensely private couple are famous for not even getting clicked together. We only got to see Rani and Aditya together for the first time a few days ago in a Befikre wrap picture. This was two years after their wedding.

Adira was born last year on December 9 and we are yet to see her. The baby’s birth was communicated to the world by her excited uncle Uday Chopra via twitter. An official communication soon followed to media in which the parents wrote: “I would like to thank all my well wishers and fans. Today life has given us God’s greatest gift with Adira. We thank fans our friends and well wishers for their unconditional support and blessings. With joy we begin this new chapter in our lives.”

The question is why would somebody like Rani, who values her privacy, suddenly share the pictures of her daughter? While the jury is still out whether these are the first pics of Adira or an elaborate hoax, the pictures are going viral on social media.

Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr has an X-rated response to the news that a teenage black girl will be playing Iron Man.

Actor Robert Downey Jr., who depicts the onscreen version of Iron Man in the film franchise, is excited for Riri Williams, a 15-year-old black girl and a science genius, to take up the mantle.

Marvel writer Brian Michael Bendis earlier this week revealed that Tony Stark will be replaced by Williams. According to Bendis, Tony Stark will step out of the Iron Man suit at the end of the comic book crossover storyline “Civil War II”, and Williams will take over.

Downey Jr. extended support to Williams in a tweet.

Be it her plus-sized character in Dum Laga Ke Haisha or her current fit avatar, actress Bhumi Pednekar says she has always loved her body. She, however, adds that she feels more comfortable now.

Asked if she likes her body more now, Bhumi told IANS: “I have always liked my body. Believe me, when I was bigger, I wore whatever…I dressed exactly what I wear now…I would wear crop tops and skirts…So, for me, it really didn’t matter.”

“But health-wise, I am a lot more comfortable right now.”

Taapsee Pannu, who is just two films old in the Hindi film industry, feels she needs to show versatility as an actress before becoming the quintessential Bollywood heroine.

Taapsee says she currently wants to concentrate on performance-oriented roles rather than running after the cliche “cute, bubbly” characters, which are anyway dominated by bigger female stars.
“Bollywood already has those quintessential girls who do love stories and play ‘sweet and cute’ kind of roles. There are so many of them who are much bigger names than me, market wise.

“So, I am left with acting-oriented roles. I need to keep acting well to reach a point where I can also do those ‘happy-go-lucky’ roles and feel like a big heroine,” Taapsee told PTI in an interview.

“Before that I have to do the struggle of doing variety so that people see that I am a decent actor and I look decent enough to be placed as a typical heroine.”

“‘Pink’ is an intense thriller, which is going to show the audience a different side of me as an actor. Next, I am doing a love story, then there is ‘Ghazi’, where I am playing a Bangladeshi refugee. None of the roles that I am doing now are similar to each other. Bollywood has offered me crazy variety of roles.”

Talking about her experience of sharing screen space with Bachchan, Taapsee says she was excited to work with him.

“It was intimidating working with Mr Bachchan… I can remember the first shot with him. It was the easiest shot you can imagine. I had to just sleep. He was sitting and talking to one of the co actors in the shot and I had to just lie down on the sofa and sleep.

“I had to give so many retakes for that shot because I couldn’t keep my eyes still, they were always flickering. I was excited, not nervous.”

“Ghazi”, Taapsee says, it is India’s first submarine movie, based on the true incidents of the mysterious sinking of PNS Ghazi, a Pakistan Submarine, by INS Rajput (D141) during the Indo-Pak war of 1971.

“‘Ghazi’ is complete. It’s a bilingual, Telgu and Hindi. It is going to be India’s first submarine film. Not many people know there was a subarmine in Pakisthan called Ghazi which sank in Indian waters during 1971 war. We have shot 75 per cent of the film inside a submarine.”

Taapsee will next be seen in actor Prakash Raj’s Hindi directorial debut “Tadka”, which also stars Ali Fazal.

The actress has worked with Raj in the past as a co-star in many Telugu films but Taapsee says she enjoyed him as a director the most.

“Prakash Raj has directed a few films in South but this is going to be his first film in Hindi as a director. He is crazy. I’ve worked with him as an actor in two films in Telugu, so this is the first time I’m working with him as a director. I think I like him as a director much more.

“Probably as an actor we don’t really get to interact that much but because he is the director now I get to know a lot more about him and how he thinks.”

Taapsee plays a Goan Catholic in the movie, which is a remake of Malayalam film “Salt and Pepper”. The actress is particularly excited about this movie as she got her hair coloured pink for her role.

“The pink colour of my hair is for the film “Takda”. Ali and I are paired opposite each other. In the movie, I play a Goan Catholic, who is an extremely crazy chic, so I had to do something really crazy.

“I feel as an actor if you place your picture people should be immediately able to recognise the movie and if you cannot make it out and it looks same for so many movies then you don’t really succeed as an actor.”

The actress even wrote her own dialogues, which she says did not come easy to her.

“Prakash sir believes that as actors we have to do much more than just mouthing our lines and performing. You actually have to make those lines your own and probably if you know the character well write them also yourself.

“There was a lot in our hands to go about because we both played characters which were spontaneous and livewire. We had to do a lot of answering back to each other so we had to come up with a lot of things on our own. Asked if she wishes or plans to star along with Karisma in a film, Kareena told IANS: “I always wish…there are no plans, but I wish to work with her (Karishma).”

Sultan is proving to be a box office behemoth within six days of its release. However, the Salman Khan, Anushka Sharma movie saw a drop in ticket sales on Monday, as expected.

Sultan had earned Rs 180.3 crore by Sunday, which was the day 5 of box office business. On Monday, the film added a little over Rs 15 crore to its kitty, which is a good collection give it was a working day and the ticket prices went down. The total collection after six days is Rs 195.9 crore.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that Sultan maintained an ”iron grip” on Monday despite a drop in ticket prices.

On Tuesday (July 12), the film is guaranteed to reach the Rs 200-crore club, according to trade experts. This will make Sultan the third Salman Khan-starrer in Rs 200-crore club after Bajrangi Bhaijaan and Kick.

The movie made Rs 36.54 crore on Wednesday at the box office. With Eid being postponed by a day, it was a working day but had no effect on the film’s business.

Day 2, which also happened to be Eid, kept the footfalls coming. With almost 90 percent occupancy in halls, the business was Rs 37.32 crore.

On Friday, the third day of the film’s release, there was a minor drop in box office collections but it was still a very respectable Rs 31.67 crore. Despite it being a working day, the positive word of mouth kept the audience coming in.

Saturday, the weekend magic began to work. There was a spike in numbers and the Salman wrestling drama earned Rs 37.1 crore.

Sultan had the highest earnings to report on day 5, which happened to be a Sunday. The movie earned Rs 38.21 crore, bringing the film’s total earning to Rs 180.36 crore.

The film, which has already broken way too many records, is now setting its sight high. Salman’s biggest hit till date is Bajrangi Bhaijaan whose lifetime earnings are Rs 316 crore.

Sultan is the biggest opener of 2016, the film has done the highest business of all Salman Khan films and it has broken all records of this year. With its four-day collections, it is already the biggest grosser of the year having eclipsed the lifetime collections of Airlift (Rs 127.8 crore) and Housefull 3 (Rs 107.7 crore).

The huge collection means that the film had already surpassed Prem Ratan Dhan Payo (Rs 129.7 crore) and Happy New Year’s (Rs 108.8 crore) record on the fourth day to become the highest opening weekend grosser, before Sunday even arrived.

Music director Shreyas Puranik, who was supposed to work for Bhansali on the movie, confirmed with a tweet that Deepika would star in the film, Pinkvilla reported.

However, on Sunday morning, the account could not be found on Twitter and rumours were rife that he had deleted his account. Twitteratti also speculated that Bhansali had fired Puranik from his film.
