Anil Kapoor may have kept his children – Sonam, Rhea and Harshvardhan – away from the limelight during their growing up years but the actor says he is no longer a protective father.

The 59-year-old star says he is confident that his children, who all are part of the film industry, can take care.

“I wanted my kids to lead a normal, simple life and concentrate on their education. I am not a protective father. I think parents need to be protective when they are kids but, now they are grown ups. They can take their own decisions.

“The truth is, we are not going to stay with them forever and they have to look after themselves and they are doing it very nicely,” Anil told PTI.

The “Welcome Back” actor feels happy to see the way his daughter Sonam deals with fame and hopes his son, who will be
making his acting debut with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s “Mirza,” is able to do the same.

“I am really happy with the way Sonam deals with the media and everything. Soon, Harshvardhan will also face it and I am sure he will also adjust well to the celebrity status.”

Unlike her siblings, who have chosen acting, Rhea has made her career in Bollywood as a producer. She has backed projects like “Aisha” and “Khoobsurat”.

Her next venture is “Veere Di Wedding” which stars sister Sonam along with Kareena Kapoor Khan, Swara Bhaskar and Shikha Talsania. The all-female starrer project will be directed by Shashanka Ghosh.

“The times are changing in Bollywood now even actresses are as a big a star as actors. They are getting paid equal and even more in some cases.

“The biggest example of today’s brave modern woman is Kareena Kapoor. She is pregnant, but script is ready and she is doing my daughter’s film. What else can be the biggest change than this. It is a very brave and great decision on Kareena and Rhea’s part,” he says.

Jimmy Shergill, Jimmy Shergill film, Jimmy Shergill upcoming film, Jimmy Shergill tanu weds manu, entertainment news Trying out various roles makes an actor sustainable.

He gained recognition as the romantic hero in Mohabbatein but Jimmy Shergill says he decided to opt for strong characters as he realised the shelf life of a lover boy was not long.

The 45-year-old “Traffic” actor, who made his debut in Bollywood with Gulzar’s directorial venture “Maachis”, believes his decision to play roles like ‘Raja Awasthi’ and ‘Saheb’ made him sustain in the industry.

“After I made my debut with ‘Maachis’ people would not recognise the clean-shaven me. But then ‘Mohabbatein’ happened. It got me a lot of work. However, in my mind I wanted to do something which makes me stand out. I couldn’t have survived with lover boy image.

“It was a conscious decision to choose films like ‘Haasil’, ‘Munna Bhai MBBS’ and ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’. This is what has made me sustain for approximately 20 years otherwise that lover boy would have been lost somewhere,” Jimmy told PTI in an interview.

The actor shares a great bond with all his directors, who tend to repeat him in their films be it Neeraj Pandey, Aanand L Rai or Tigmanshu Dhulia. Jimmy credits the emotional connect he has with all these filmmakers behind this.

“The directors repeat me because most of them have done their first film with me. We are friends and there is this emotional connect.

“Even if we are not doing films, we meet over a cup of coffee. We share memories and it is very nice on their part that even after becoming top directors they have not forgotten me.”

The “Tanu Weds Manu Returns” actor will next be seen in Irrfan Khan starrer “Maadari”. “It was nice on his part to think that I am apt for the role. When I heard the script, I was blown away and I wanted to this story to be told. There is a huge emotional attachment to the story of the film,” says Jimmy.

The duo have worked together in five films including their upcoming release and for the actor it is a pleasure to share screen space with him.

“I share a very nice rapport with him. Even if he is not shooting he will come to the set and help you give a better performance. There is definitely a director inside him. Working with him is always a pleasure. He is my favourite actor ever since we worked together in our first film.”

Directed by Nishikant Kamat, “Maadari” will hit the theatres on July 22. Jimmy, who ventured into production with 2011 Punjabi film “Dharti” and went on to two back four projects in the language, is planning to take a break as a producer as he wants to focus more on his acting career.

“Producing a film takes a lot of time. You have to be involved since the beginning and then there is shooting plus promotions. I now want to do one or two films a year and focus more on my characters. Till now I have worked day and night. Now I want to do something which will make me stand out as an artist.”

I don’t mind playing grandfather: Anil Kapoor

Anil Kapoor, Anil Kapoor FILM, Anil Kapoor role, Anil Kapoor tv show, Anil Kapoor upcoming film, entertainment news Anil Kapoor doesn’t mind playing the role of a grandfather on the big screen.

Actor-producer Anil Kapoor, often tagged as a “forever young” star in the industry, says be it a father or grandfather, he is ready to step into their shoes on screen as it’s only the role that matters to him.

He will soon turn 60, but age doesn’t seem to be the deciding factor for his work in the industry.

Anil, who has played a father to actors like Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra on the big screen of late, told IANS here: “I am looking forward to ‘Fanney Khan’. We launched it on Eid. It has a fantastic script. It’s a musical. I am really thrilled to be part of the film. It’s the first time that I am playing a character whose name is Khan. He is a father too.”

“I am playing a father in ’24’ as well. I have a grown-up son and daughter in the show. In its second season, you will see a major conflict between me and my son. The scenes have come out really well. In fact, I don’t mind playing a grandfather as long as my role is great,” added the actor, who has three children – actress Sonam Kapoor, producer Rhea Kapoor and actor Harshvardhan Kapoor.

Off screen, he is excited about hitting 60 in December this year.

“I am looking forward to it. For me, every day is a birthday, New Year and Diwali. I love to celebrate life as I feel blessed that I am alive and breathing in this beautiful world,” he said.

Talking more about the second season of the upcoming finite TV series “24”, Anil said: “Shabana Azmi and Ronit Roy have done cameos. That’s one of my favourite episodes. Shabana was there in the earlier season also. She plays Abhilasha. She has moved up in the ranking and Ronit is also there. They both are from national security department.”

The show, an Indian adaptation of the popular American TV show “24”, has often been lauded by the masses for its international look. Is that the reason for its success in India?

“We have kept the aesthetics of ’24’. The endeavour is to show that we are no less than international filmmakers and production companies. For that, we had to work extra hard. The budgets are much lesser than the international shows, but we have tried to give good results,” said the “Slumdog Millionaire” actor.

The second season of “24” is certainly getting all the buzz, especially for the kissing scene between him and his co-star Surveen Chawla. Was he nervous while filming it?

“You are playing a character. It’s just a job. I don’t get nervous. I think we were convinced about it and the channel (Colors) gave us the freedom to do it. So we did it,” he said.

Will the show get a film adaptation?

“I don’t have the rights to adapt (to a film). ’24’ is written in such a way that it’s difficult to… Creators of ’24’ (the American TV show) have been trying to make the show into a film. But they have not been able to crack it because the basic concept is 24 hours,” said Anil, who also featured in the US action-drama show as well.

On the film front, he will be seen sharing the screen space with his nephew Arjun Kapoor in filmmaker Anees BazmeeÂ’s next.

“I won’t tell you the story, but it’s exciting. We will try to entertain the audience. It’s close to my heart as I am working with a family member,” said Anil.

Meet Sultan’s friend Govind: Getting noticed in Salman Khan film was challenging, says Anant Vidhaat

If Salman Khan is the reason for the super success of Sultan, it’s the film’s supporting cast that made the movie more interesting with their impressive performances. And one such character in the film was Govind, Sultan’s Haryanvi friend, played brilliantly by Anant Vidhaat, a theatre actor from Delhi. In an exclusive conversation with IndianExpress.com, a candid Vidhaat talked about his experience of sharing screen with Salman Khan, his journey from streets of Delhi to Yash Raj Films studio and how the content-driven films offer opportunities for budding actors like him.

After the release of Sultan, people are interested in knowing more about you. But very little is available on the internet. So can you give a brief description of yourself?

I was born in Gwalior and brought up in Delhi. Since my childhood, I have been very interested in acting. After completing school I pursed B.Com in Kirorimal College and joined its theatre society, Players. I had told my parents about pursuing a career in acting and they were very supportive. I then completed my graduation in 2004 and came to Mumbai and joined Satish Kaushik, who also happened to be an alumni of our theatre group, as an assistant director in three films – Milenge Milenge (2010), Vada (2005) and Shaadi se Pehle (2006). But after assisting him I realised that it will take some time to groom my acting skill. I then went to Poland for training. After three years of training, I did a solo play based on the character of Ravan in FTII Pune and did theatre for some time. I came back to Mumbai to try my hand in films, of which I was very passionate about.

Anant Vidhaat , Anant Vidhaat sultan Anant Vidhaat was born and brought up in Delhi. Since childhood, he has have been very interested in acting.

And then you bagged a role in Gunday, a Yash Raj Films project that is a dream for Indian actors. So how did that happen?

Actually in my initial days, I had done few workshops for Yash Raj Films. But one of the major factor was director Ali Abbas Zafar who was my senior in Kirorimal College. He was also a part of Players. So when I came to Mumbai he asked to give an audition. Its a big thing for an aspiring actor to get even a chance to audition, forget getting a role. It’s so difficult there. Here I feel myself to lucky to have a senior like Ali. I gave the audition which producer Aditya Chopra liked and I got Gunday. Even before the release of Gunday, I got another call for audition for Mardaani by Pradeep Sarkar. I gave it and Pradeep Da liked it and Sunny Katyal (character in Mardaani) was born.

The character of Sunny Katyal was of a member of a high-profile sex racket. It was quite different from that of Gunday. How did you prepare yourself for that role?

My stay in Delhi helped me prepare for that role. I have come across many such people in Delhi and Gurgaon who wear classy clothes, heavy jewellery but are too rude and speak foul language. And my observation of these men helped me prepare for that role. Pradeep Da also had the same idea about that character. But keeping it endearing was a challenge for me and people liked that character. Audience reaction was overwhelming.

Watch: Spot Sultan’s friend Govind here.

[youtube=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjv4P9PUrBM&w=640&h=315]

And that helped you bag Sultan?

No. After Mardaani I was jobless for almost a year. I wasn’t offered many roles and the kind of work that were offered to me didn’t move me. So I kept waiting for a good project because I don’t accept random work for the sake of working. There was a big gap between Mardaani and Sultan.

Didn’t that lead to frustration?

No. its a phase in actor’s life where you have no work. But then you have to commit yourself so that frustration shouldn’t overpower you. I kept myself engaged reading books, novels, watching movies which could enrich me. I trained myself in the meantime. Actor’s training is not just restricted to gym, you have so many things to do. Patience is the key be it in any filed.

So how Sultan happened?

Again I was called for an audition. And that was not for the role of Govind but for some other character. But then the makers decided to cast me for Salman’s friend character, which had an important role in the story. And I must say playing hero’s friend used to be a big curse in Hindi films once. I was also very apprehensive about the character earlier because “hero ka dost aksar bahut dead sa character hota hai.” But in last three-four years, hero’s friend are given importance like you see Zeshan Ayub in Raanjhna or Deepak Dobriyal in Tanu Weds Manu. And since it was Salman’s friend, it had to be strong. Because if you are sharing screen with him, people may just see you. But if you have to want to be noticed, you have to do something extra.

And how was the experience of sharing screen with him. Weren’t you nervous with the kind of aura he has?

Here I must say he was very supportive. I remember he told me on the first day of the shoot, “Agar tum achhey dikhogey to mai achha dikhunga aur agar mai achha dikhunga to tum achhey dikhogey.” That gave me immense confidence and the shooting became very easy for me. He was very generous and never made me feel awkward. I cant describe the kind of understanding he has with his supporting cast.

What do you think is behind Salman’s stardom. An actor recently said there are three type of actors — good, bad and Salman Khan. Do you agree?

I don’t think anyone can decipher that, otherwise anyone can become a Salman Khan. But yes, of course, he has an X factor which others don’t have. Secondly, his ease with acting. He is so effortless in front of camera and that makes him stand apart.

People are talking about Salman’s Haryanvi, accent which you also got perfect in the film. How did you manage that?

That again I will say my life in Delhi acted as a catalyst. Being brought up in Delhi have been in association with people from Punjab and Haryana and that came to me naturally.

Who do you idolize in Bollywood?

I have always enjoyed watching Sanjeev Kumar, Dilip Kumar, Balraj Sahni and also Amitabh Bachchan. And in current crop I am a big fan of the work of Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqi. They are big inspiration not just for me but other aspiring actors. It because of these two people that an actor like me can even think of being a protagonist of a film. And the kind of content driven films are being made these days, it have open door of opportunities for actors like us.

Prisma, Prisma app, Priyanka Chopra, Deepika Padukone, Prisma photos Called Prisma, it lets your everyday, boring selfies and pictures turn into works of art by one of the greats.

As the world goes crazy about Pokemon Go, there is another app which is quietly getting all the attention. Called Prisma, it lets your everyday, boring selfies and pictures turn into works of art by one of the greats.

As Alia Bhatt posted her picture after making it art-sy with Prisma earlier today (July 13), we are going out on a limb and announcing that this will be the next Dubsmash to hit Bollywood. Imagine your favourite stars turning into a work of art? Hell yeah.

( function() { var func = function() { var iframe_form = document.getElementById('wpcom-iframe-form-62b352103c40887422f2110dc8c73801-578c15ee80490'); var iframe = document.getElementById('wpcom-iframe-62b352103c40887422f2110dc8c73801-578c15ee80490'); if ( iframe_form && iframe ) { iframe_form.submit(); iframe.onload = function() { iframe.contentWindow.postMessage( { 'msg_type': 'poll_size', 'frame_id': 'wpcom-iframe-62b352103c40887422f2110dc8c73801-578c15ee80490' }, window.location.protocol + '//wpcomwidgets.com' ); } } // Autosize iframe var funcSizeResponse = function( e ) { var origin = document.createElement( 'a' ); origin.href = e.origin; // Verify message origin if ( 'wpcomwidgets.com' !== origin.host ) return; // Verify message is in a format we expect if ( 'object' !== typeof e.data || undefined === e.data.msg_type ) return; switch ( e.data.msg_type ) { case 'poll_size:response': var iframe = document.getElementById( e.data._request.frame_id ); if ( iframe && '' === iframe.width ) iframe.width = '100%'; if ( iframe && '' === iframe.height ) iframe.height = parseInt( e.data.height ); return; default: return; } } if ( 'function' === typeof window.addEventListener ) { window.addEventListener( 'message', funcSizeResponse, false ); } else if ( 'function' === typeof window.attachEvent ) { window.attachEvent( 'onmessage', funcSizeResponse ); } } if (document.readyState === 'complete') { func.apply(); /* compat for infinite scroll */ } else if ( document.addEventListener ) { document.addEventListener( 'DOMContentLoaded', func, false ); } else if ( document.attachEvent ) { document.attachEvent( 'onreadystatechange', func ); } } )();

But before other Bollywood stars follow Alia’s example and turn their next selfie into a portrait by one of the greats, we have preempted them. Imagine Deepika Padukone as a cubist work by Picasso or Katrina Kaif by Van Gogh? These are the photo filters we never knew we wanted.
