Actor Sandeepa Dhar, who made her debut in Bollywood in 2010 with Isi Life Mein, is now gearing up for the release of her upcoming film 7 Hours To Go directed by Saurabh Verma of Mickey Virus fame.

After doing small roles in Dabangg 2 and Heropanti, Sandeepa is all set to shed her girl next door image with her upcoming film in which she is playing a fearless cop. The actor was in Delhi on June 20 to promote her film.

When asked if this could be a path breaking film for her, Sandeepa told the IndianExpress.com, “I hope so. I don’t know if it’s a path breaking film but it’s definitely a huge change for me as an actor. I am so thankful to Saurabh for giving me the opportunity to be a part of this film and portray this character. It is a very strong female character and you rarely get such parts to play in a film. It’s is an out and back role and I am very lucky to have got this character to play. I am sure when you watch the film, you will see a different kind of cinema for sure.”

Sandeepa will also be seen doing some high action sequences in the film for the first time on screen which was something very challenging for her.

“It’s extremely difficult. It’s physically very taxing. I think for men they are very used to do things like this. But girls are very feminine. So when I punch, it should look like there’s a power in it. Especially because I am hitting a guy, it even needs to be even more effective. I have seen a lot of heroines doing action scenes but they don’t look convincing. It looks very dheela. But when you see it in the Hollywood, the female actors are so convincing in actions sequences. The reason is that they undergo a rigorous training. So I was clear in my head that if I do an action film, I would train myself. And yes it was very difficult. I also got hurt several time,” she said.

Sandeepa also shared her experience working with Salman Khan in Dabangg 2. “It was amazing yaar. It was my second film with him and to be sharing screen with Salman Khan himself is a dream come true for me and he is such a thorough gentleman and everyone know he such a really really nice person. I had an amazing time working not the whole team of Dabangg 2. The entire Khan family is really really nice. And I am very grateful to them for giving me an opportunity to be a part of Dabangg 2 and I had fun.”

Actor Shiv Pandit, who made his Bollywood debut with Anurag Kashyap’s Shaitan in 2011, considers himself a child of God for getting the kind of work he likes doing it. “It’s a great experience. I am very lucky enough. I consider myself a child of God because in today’s date getting a work in itself is a big thing and getting a work that you like doing is like icing on the cake. So for me I feel I am very lucky,” said Pandit whose upcoming crime thriller ‘7 hours to go’ will hit theaters on June 24.

The actor said he is always realistic in his approach in his career and is ready for the worst. “I am also preparing myself for tomorrow when I stop getting work in the industry. So I have to be ready and realistic that what is happening right now is a gift from God. The journey has been great and I hope the journey doesn’t end. But there’s a huge possibility tomorrow that I may not get the work,” said Pandit, adding that he doesn’t have a conventional godfather in the industry.

“Today the godfather term has been created from production houses like Dharma, Balaji. They have taken actors from their banner and they keep making films with them, just keep backing them. So I don’t have that. So I am a complete outsider and I have come to the terms that I am going to stay an outsider only,” said the actor expressing his excitement over the release of 7 hours to go.

7 Hours To Go clashes with Anurag Kashyap’s Raman Raghav 2.0 and Yami-Pulkit starrer Junooniyat at box office.

On being asked if this clash would hamper the film’s business at the box office, Shiv told the IndianExpress.com, “We are so happy that our film is releasing. If ten people have liked Raman Raghav’s trailer, atleast one of them have liked our film’s trailer too. So it’s like , we are very grateful. We are happy with whatever we are receiving and we are just leaving it to the audience.”

Shiv also shared his experience of working with Anurag Kashyap and called him a pioneer of independent cinema. He also shared his experience of working with Akshay Kumar in Boss.

“It was nothing short of magical because Anurag is a wonderful producer, he’s a wonderful human being. He’s actually a pioneer of independent cinema. He’s a pioneer of good content and good quality cinema and I am hoping in his bad days also god give him strength so much so that he keeps moving forward with his fights because the changes that he has brought to the industry, I don’t know if anybody is capable to do that. So more power to him and as regard Akshay Kumar is a gem of a person and I am his huge fan,” he said.

Working with Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman is on the bucket list of many Bollywood actresses and Anushka, who has shared screen with all the three Khans, says she is grateful to them for helping her reach a wider audience.

Anushka entered the film industry in 2008 with Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi opposite Shah Rukh and in 2014 film PK she was paired with Aamir. She will be now seen opposite Salman in wrestler drama “Sultan”.

“For me as an actor it is great to work with the Khans, who have every possible experience one can have in a film industry. They have been around for more than two decades. There is a lot one can observe and learn when you are working with them. Apart from that, I am very grateful that because of them my work is reaching to more people,” Anushka told PTI.

The 28-year-old actress says even though she has worked with top actors, choosing her co-stars is never on her mind as for her the director and script are her priority.

“I have never tried to work with actors, for me the director and script is paramount. For me, it is always good script and in doing that I have been fortunate that I got to work with wonderful actors not just the Khans like Ranbir Kapoor, Ranveer Singh, Sushant Singh Rajput, Imran Khan and others. It has been wonderful.”

In her latest film “Sultan”, which has been directed by Ali Abbas Zafar, Anushka will be seen playing a Haryanvi wrestler. The female casting of the film was hotly anticipated as names of many leading actresses cropped up ahead of the shoot before Anushka was finalised.

However, the actress says she was not aware of any such stories or speculations floating around the film, which is slated to released this Eid.

“As a person and as an actor I try to take as little information about what is happening around me as possible. I was focused on what have to do. I don’t read newspapers, I don’t read anything that has come out. Only if something wronghas been written about me, my publicist sends me the article and so I can take action against them. Otherwise I don’t read anything.

“So, I don’t have any idea what was going on. I was only concerned with when my time started. When Adi (Aditya Chopra) called me he asked me if I wanted to do it. After hearing the script, I came on board. That is when my journey began and that is what matters to me.”

Anushka described her character Afra as a rooted person, who is very mature for her age. Since Anushka joined the film late, she had just six weeks to prepare for her role.

“I was up for the challenge. I really liked my role. The only thing that I was worried was that I didn’t have enough time to prepare for the role. For a film like this you would want three to four months of proper training. But I had less than six weeks to prepare.”

The actress, however, is happy that her hard work is paying off as the audience has liked the rushes of her character in the trailer and songs.

“It was a very packed schedule for me. I don’t know how this six months have passed but all in all I am very happy that people believe I am a wrestler. So, it was all worth it.”

The “NH 10” actress says with the role she is trying to break the perception that female wrestlers are always bulky.

When she researched about the subject, she found out that most international female wrestlers have a lean built.

“I knew that I have a certain perception to break. I look a certain way and I have always been lean. During my research, I found that you don’t have to be wide-framed. There are many who are toned. I realised that is what I have to work towards.”

Her chemistry with her co-star Salman has also garnered favourable response from fans and Anushka attributes it to their starkly different personalities.

“The beauty of the casting is that it is so unconventional. It added a different dimension. Our approach is very different. There is a weirdly organic energy that comes between actors who are so different form one another.”

Yami says she and Pulkit signed both the films around the same time and shooting also began one after the other.

“We worked simultaneously on both the films. We signed both the films around the same time. It was almost a year that we were shooting together. It was a very good experience of working with Pulkit. He is one of those actors, who will give your space. He is spontaneous.”

But the 27-year-old actress recalls she had to train herself a lot to match steps with Pulkit.

“We all know what a fabulous dancer he is and that added a lot of work on me. And now, when people are saying that I danced well, I give the whole credit to Pulkit. It’s a blessing to have a good co-actor. Your work is not going to come out in a better way if your co-actor is not co-operative.”

Yami made her debut with Shoojit Sircar’s film Vicky Donor opposite Ayushmann Khurrana followed by her small stints in films like Action Jackson and Badlapur.

Asked what she takes into consideration while choosing a project, Yami said, “My choice is a mix of everything. I did Badlapur’ because I wanted to work with Sriram Raghavan and I wanted to be a part of film which is different for people to watch.

“Apart from that, I am not bothered about the length of my role. I keep pushing myself in terms of genre.”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap says it’s time to get children out of India’s censor board.

“Just heard… Another film, Neeraj Pandey’s Saat Uchakkey, refused certificate. Can we please just go straight to the Tribunal to save time,” Kashyap tweeted on Monday (June 20) night.

“Maybe it’s time to get the children out of CBFC and bar them from examining adult films Saat Uchakkey, Haraamkhor,” he added.

Kashyap, who co-produced Udta Punjab, a movie on Punjab’s drug menace, fought a battle against the censors who ordered as many as 89 cuts in the movie. Its Revising Committee scaled down the cuts to 13.

The movie could only release once the makers moved the Bombay High Court, which overruled the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC)-recommended cuts and cleared it for release with just one cut and three disclaimers.

After Udta Punjab, another of Kashyap’s co-production, Haraamkhor, faced the CBFC’s music. The censors said the movie can’t be released for its theme of a teacher’s love story with his student. Now Saat Uchakkey is said to be in trouble.

Kashyap, who had called CBFC chief Pahlaj Nihalani an oligarch earlier, questioned: “What’s the point of taking a film seeking an adult certificate to the CBFC?”

Playing an unhinged serial-killer is not one of the easiest things to pull off but Nawazuddin Siddiqui says he was confident about his role in Raman Raghav 2.0 because Anurag Kashyap was behind the camera.

Nawaz, 42, first collaborated with Kashyap in a small role in the director’s debut film Black Friday but it was Gangs of Wasseypur 2 that saw the actor play his first memorable lead role.

The Badlapur star says he shares a great chemistry with Kashyap, who, he feels manages to get the best out of him.

“I feel very confident with Anurag. When he is behind the camera, I feel I can be the best actor in the world. He gives me that kind of security, which an actor seeks in his director. I can’t explain the chemistry we have but we can sit for hours together without exchanging a word,” Nawaz told PTI in an interview.

Anurag has already spoken about how disturbing it was for Nawaz to play the role as the actor fell ill during the making of the film, which is a contemporary take on notorious serial killer Raman Raghav. The movie will release on Friday (June 24) .

Nawaz says it was hard to believe that a person like this existed and it was a disturbing process to prepare for it.

“The process of preparing it was disturbing. He is not a normal person. He is proud of his killings and has a justification for it. I may not think like that but when you are playing a character like this, you have to believe that otherwise you won’t be able to justify it.”

To unwind from his movie roles, Nawaz takes a trip to his village in Muzaffarnagar and spends time farming.

“It is important to separate the reel from reality. I go to my village and do farming. I like it there. I feel like I am the same old person. It gives you a breathing space.”

Ask whether things have changed in the village now that he has become a big star, Nawaz says, “My stardom does not work there. You have to stay like a farmer and they like that. They feel that they have their old friend back.”

Nawaz has come to be known as one of the finest actors in Bollywood and his chameleon-like ability to transform on-screen has endeared him not only to the indie filmmakers but also to star-driven projects be it Salman Khan’s Kick, Bajrangi Bhaijaan or Shah Rukh’s upcoming drama Raees.

He, however, says he is careful in selecting the big budget projects as he believes he can’t afford to make mistakes.

“I do only those big projects where I feel I have something to do. The character should be important, it should have individuality. In Bajarangi’, I had a unique character, Salman and a director like Kabir Khan.

“It is difficult to say no sometimes. I want the other person to understand my reasons. When you have options, then you have to be careful. I feel I can’t afford to make a single mistake, it is not forgivable for me. So, I am careful. There are people who understand why I say no but sometimes people think ‘How can he reject my film?’.”

Nawaz has a number of projects lined up including Haraamkhor, comedy film Ghoomketu, a Sohail Khan film and his Lunchbox director Ritesh Batra’s project titled Photographer.

“Ghoomketu is an out and out comedy. It is currently being edited. I am doing Sohail Khan’s film with Amy Jackson and also Ritesh Batra’s Photographer.

“Comedy is the easiest thing for me because I did 150 plays during my theatre days. I understand the timing and what makes people laugh. But the most interesting emotion for me is romance and luckily I am doing such films now.

“My film with Amy is romantic and Ritesh’s film is full of romance. I am excited to reteam with him after Lunchbox.”

The makers of the film on Tuesday claimed in a statement that the District Magistrate of Muzaffarnagar has prohibited screening of Shorgul in all theatres across the western UP city as the film touches upon a sensitive issue and fearing that it might lead to communal riots.

A 24 FPS Films Production, the Jimmy Sheirgill and Ashutosh Rana-starrer is based on intolerance and aspires to make audiences contemplate where humanity stands amidst the noise of religious, social, political and economic prejudice.

Also featuring Sanjay Suri, Narendra Jha, Hiten Tejwani, Eijaz Khan, Suha Gezen, Anirudh Dave and Deepraj Rana, Shorgul touches upon grave subjects that have transpired in the recent past such as the Muzaffarnagar, Godhra and Babri Masjid riots apart from making references to bureaucratic misdoings, mind games and controversial master strokes of some high profile dignitaries.

Vyas Verma, one of the producers, said: “We have repeatedly stated the fact that Shorgul is not a depiction of any specific incident or occurrence, but a reflection of what happens in our society, bringing out issues that concern the nation. Uttar Pradesh is just the backdrop.”

He added: “However, this news is extremely unfortunate and sad. We want to question these authorities on why they are particularly stopping the (screening of the) film in Muzaffarnagar. Are they afraid of anything in particular? Don’t the people of Muzaffarnagar have the right to see what’s happening in our country! Every citizen has the right to watch this film as the film raises the voice of the common man.”

Earlier this month, a PIL filed by Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Milan Som against the film was dismissed by the Allahabad High Court bench in Lucknow.

Aman Singh, who is also a co-producer of the film, also shared: “Yes, our film definitely touches upon various controversial political controversies but it is no way a biopic but more like a need of the hour.”

“We don’t wish to defame any political party but we definitely want to highlight various subjects and ensure that audiences go back home with questions and a possible resolve towards a more logical India,” Singh said.

The film is slated to release on June 24.

Pakistani censor board today gave a green signal to the release of Indian movie “Udta Punjab” here after suggesting more than “100 cuts” to remove “objectionable and anti-Pakistan” content from the film, which had already run afoul with Indian censors.

“All 10-members of the CBFC have unanimously allowed ‘Udta Punjab’ to be released after editing objectionable content,” Mubashir Hasan, the Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) head, told PTI.

Hasan said almost every dialogue had offensive words so they asked for major cuts in the Punjab-set drug drama.

“We have cut all derogatory and offensive words/dialogues and anti-Pakistan content from the film. More than 100 cuts, mutes, beeps have been suggested to the film’s distributor. Once he will complete the editing as per the requirement of the board, it will again be presented before it for final approval,” Hasan said.

The Abhishek Chaubey-directed movie, starring Bollywood A-listers Shahid Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh, had run into trouble with the Indian censor board which demanded 89 cuts from the movie.

Not to ready to relent, the producers moved the Bombay High Court against the board to get their film cleared for its scheduled release on June 17 while also gathering support from Bollywood. The court passed the movie with just one cut and a revised disclaimer.

Earlier, the five-member panel of the board declined to pass ‘Udta Punjab’ for screening in Pakistan, citing objectionable content but Hasan said they later decided to give it conditional approval.

“We had not banned this movie. On the appeal of the distributor the full board sat together today and gave conditional approval for its screening here,” Hasan said.

He said the board never compromises on anti-Islam, anti-Pakistan and anti-society contents in a film and bans it forthwith.

“‘Udta Punjab’ does not fall in that category. We have asked the distributor to delete those scenes which even slightly refer to Pakistan and words like ‘786’ (which refers to Bismillah) and words ‘Maryam’.”

The film’s distributor is likely get the content edited in Dubai in a day or two before presenting it again before the CBFC for final approval.

“Udta Punjab is likely to be screened across Pakistan this weekend,” the distributor said.
