Sonam Kapoor’s Neerja finally takes flight on Friday (February 19 ). The movie, which has been receiving rave reviews at celeb screenings, is based on the true life story Neerja Bhanot, an air hostess whose courageous act saved the lives of many when her Pan Am flight was hijacked by terrorists. Neerja was later shot dead.

The movie will recreate the life of Neerja Bhanot, her life as an air hostess and how she prevented the terrorists from carrying out their sinister plans and helped save scores of passengers especially Americans by hiding their passports.
The incident, which took place in 1986, will play out like a novel story for many who were not born when the hijack unfolded. What will work in favour of the movie is the fact that this is the first ever movie to be made on Neerja and will showcase things hitherto unknown about the braveheart.

Apart from Sonam, the movie also has proved performers like Shabana Azmi and Yogendra Tiku playing the roles of Neerja’s parents.
There are three other movies lined up for release tomorrow alongside Neerja namely Direct Ishq (Ranjeesh Duggal), Ishq Forever (Ruhi Singh) and Love Shhuda (Girish Taurani). None of these three are expected to offer stiff competition to Neerja.
It remains to be seen if Neerja will have a smooth take-off.
