Sultan Salman Khan destroys box office records internationally, movie makes Rs 100 crore abroad

Salman Khan’s Sultan has made close to Rs 100 crore in five days at international box office. The records it has broken will shock you.

Salman Khan’s Sultan is inching towards Rs 100 crore, and we mean its international box office record in just five days. The film has earned Rs 180.3 crore at the domestic box office in five days and is likely to touch Rs 200 crore mark once the Monday collections come in. Having eclipsed the lifetime collections of any other film released in 2016 (Akshay Kumar’s Airlift included) in five days, the film is breaking a host of records — including those outside India.

Trade analyst called Sultan’s international BO business “fantastic,” while reporting Rs 91.9 crore in ticket sales till Sunday. By Monday, it is expected to breach Rs 100-crore mark.

The total gross box office collection of the Ali Abbas Zafar directorial now stands at Rs 344.5 crore ($ 51.4 million) and is said to be the highest for any Bollywood film in its opening weekend.

The film is doing blockbuster BO business abroad. Sultan was released on 4,500 screens in India and 1,100 screens in the rest of the world. The BO aggregator Deadline reported that outside India, Sultan set the biggest opening day and weekend ever for Bollywood in the UAE-GCC and the fastest to $5M (in five days). Pakistan likewise saw the biggest opening day and weekend ever and a speed record to $1 million (in three days). The UK and Ireland had the top opening day and weekend ever, and Australia and New Zealand also set debut weekend records

In Pakistan, the film earned over Rs 15 crore in five days, having eclipsed the 2015 opening weekend record set by Pakistani movie Jawani Phir Nahi Ani last year.

Made at an estimated cost of Rs 70 crore, the film has already made over 100% profit and destroyed records. Here are all the records that Sultan broke, as reported by the box office aggregator: The movie has the highest advance booking ever, the biggest pre-Eid opening day box office, is the fastest to cross Rs 150 and Rs 175 net crore (five days), boasts the biggest opening in Yash Raj history and is first movie to gross Rs 345 crore worldwide on an opening weekend.

US website Deadline reported that Sultan entered the top ranks on an international weekend. It has been particularly strong in the UAE, and in North America and set a 2016 record for Bollywood with $2.22M in the 3-day and $3.23M for the 5-day — besting the lifetime’s of all Hindi releases this year in its first frame.

Salman’s biggest earner till date is Bajrangi Bhaijaan, a member of the Rs 300-crore club. Now, is that another record waiting to be broken?
