Kay Kay Menon is no stranger to censorship. The actor has been part of films like Paanch and Black Friday that attracted cuts from the Censor Board. And that’s precisely the reason why the actor finds censorship illogical and foolish.
When asked to give his take on Udta Punjab, which is currently mired in a tussle with the Censor Board, Menon said, “I don’t like censorship. I don’t understand the logic behind it. At the age of 18, you can vote which means you have the right to elect your government. That’s a far greater decision than watching a film. So I just don’t know the logic behind it. It’s foolish according to me.”
The actor believes a rating system should be put in place rather than snipping out controversial contents of the film. “Censorship should be done away with. If you want some criteria you can have ratings and can have elementary stuff that can be stopped at the exhibition stage. For instance, if students shouldn’t be allowed, it is the exhibitors responsibility. That shouldn’t be a criteria to control or ban a film. So for me it makes no sense. Censorship makes no sense,” reasoned Menon.
