Abhishek Bachchan talks to The Indian Express about his upcoming flick.
The third installment of the Housefull franchise releases tomorrow. What sets it apart from the first two?
Nothing. I think I am the only thing different in the films, and the girls — Nargis Fakhri and Lisa Haydon. There are three actresses and Jacqueline Fernandez is the only one who has been in all three films. The film is what it is — the genre of Housefull, by concept, is that it is a full house and it is the same for this part. But this has a different set-up and premise, and a different story.
In an industry where being a solo lead matters, how was it working in a multi-starrer like Housefull 3?
I’ve always said the more the merrier. There is always a lot of fun when there is a huge cast on the set. It’s the first time I’ve worked with Lisa, Nargis and Jacqueline. It was wonderful to know them and work with them; they have done such a great job.
What is your character in the movie?
My character’s name is Bunty and he is an aspiring rapper. He loves to talk, but to get in the house, he has to be mute. So he is robbed of the one faculty he has the most – speaking. I find that a very funny premise. Akshay is a footballer in the film, and he comes into the house as a physically disabled. And Riteish is a race car driver and pretends to be blind. All this allows for a lot of comedy.
Sajid-Farhad have replaced Sajid Khan as the director in the Housefull franchise.
Every director is unique. I’ve worked with Sajid-Farhad before as writers, in Bol Bachchan. I have known their style and approach. Sajid-Farhad are very animated when explaining anything to you. For example, when they narrated the film to me, it was as if they performed the entire film in front of me.
Is Housefull 3 also an adult comedy?
No, it is a family entertainer.
What is your take on the censorship situation in India?
It is a creative field, an art form. At some level, one can’t censor an art form, but one also has to understand the situation they all function under. We have a variety of people, with different sensibilities and sensitivities. This needs to be taken into consideration as well.
You’ve done films belonging to very different genres — be it Yuva, Guru or Dostana. What have you enjoyed the most?
It is tough to choose. No actor is comfortable doing just one kind of film. So, it is difficult to say that I am better at this or what I am more comfortable with. There are all up as challenges.
