Hansal Mehta expressed his deep anger and disappointment at the Censor Board’s decision o giving an ‘A’ rated certificate to the trailer of Aligarh.

“I am showing this trailer in anger and protest,” said Hansal Mehta at the trailer launch of the film.

The filmmaker said
his efforts to publicise the movie stonewalled because of the ‘A’ certificate granted to the trailer. “The adult certificate given to our trailer means that the trailer will only be shown with other ‘A’ rated films in the theatre.”

Hansal is also peeved that this decision will force him to spend his precious time trying to resolve the Censor issue leaving him with no room or space to promote his movie. “We have only one month before the film release. It is an important film which talks about loneliness, relationship and homophobic society. The censor is behaving exactly like those people who suspended Professor Shiras in the movie. They are behaving like a homophobic society. You are breaking the back of smaller film and making us run from pillar to post.” (Read: ‘Kya Kool Hain Hum 3’ regressive nonsense: Hansal Mehta)

The Censor Board has apparently asked Hansal Mehta to delete a few scenes including the one where Manoj Bajpai is seen dozing off in court. The director said that he would contest the decision by appealing to the Tribunal. (Also read: Manoj Bajpayee deserves the best: Hansal Mehta)

Actor Manoj Bajpai too expressed his surprise at the trailer receiving an A certificate and said that censoring of films should stop in our country.
