Five talented designers — Aqdus Saleem, Chirag Nainani, Naveem Naaz Shaikh, Agrima Batra and Sohaya Misra– showcased their designs at INIFD Gen Next Show.
Fazal, 29, who was dressed in Naveem’s denim creation looked comfortably handsome.
The “Furkey” actor said he was amazed with the talent these young designers have and also expressed his desire to have a fashion line in future.
“I love what I am wearing. Naveem has designed this specially for me. I loved her work. This is the second season for me to walk the ramp at LFW. Let’s see if I ever come up with my own fashion line someday,” he said.
Kurtas, midis, checked unstructured coats, unusual saris paired with shirts and pants were highlight of Naveem’s collection.
“Denim is usually considered not very comfortable for summer, so I have tried and make it high school and comfortable. My only moto is to put people in something they want to wear. I have used lots of lazer and child like characters,” Naveem said.
Anchor Mini Mathur also joined in wearing one of her red sarees with denim bottom.
Iranian actress-model Karimi walked for Agrima, a graduate from Parsons the School of Design, New York.
Her collection was a mix of stylish chic day-to-evening wear that was created with zero wastage.
Karimi, who was sporting a monochromatic creation with patches on sleeves said she loves walking the ramp, but still enjoys acting more.
“I love Agrima’s designs. I had a great time walking for her. She is so young yet so talented. I am a model and love coming to ramp, but still enjoy acting more as that is what I want to do,” she said.
Sohaya’s collection was aimed at fashion wearers of all ages and sizes. With textured linen and cotton as the prime fabrics sans embellishments, the collection was full of layered separates.
Flared shirt dresses with soft trench coat, draped asymmetric frock, grey layered skirt, striped coat were some of her most appreciated creations.
“My collection is all about drape, detailing and fabric. It’s not embellished. I have used organic colour palette. It looks very easy, but anybody can make a bold statement wearing it,” Sohaya said about her spring/summer range.
Post graduate student, Aqdus created a perfect blend of Islamic culture and ethnic wear through her range.
Shades of white cotton, lawn, linen and organza were delicately highlighted with embellishments in white and Sahara beige.
Inspired by the Middle East, Aqdus made a shift from traditional Abayas and went onto more fashionable modern attire.
The only male designer to make to Gen Next category this year was Chirag. Exploring the use of indigenous material, handloom fabrics and crafts by local artisans, the designer brought in indigo dyeing with resist techniques.
“My collection was based on psychological test called Rorschach. I have developed my patterns from there. I love dying and printing so I have done a lot of that on my designs. I have used a lot of cotton based fabric for men. I have treated them in a very Indian way,” Chirag said.
