John Abraham’s upcoming action thriller Rocky Handsome is releasing alongside the T20 cricket World Cup. We have often witnessed either the film does too well or not as per expectations when the two co-exist since cricket is one of the most watched sports in the country.
Not bothered over the fact that his movie is releasing at that time of the year when people like to sit on their couches with popcorn in their hands watching cricket matches, John says that there is different audience for both.
When asked to state a reason behind releasing their movie alongside the T20 matches, John said, “Kapoor & Sons has also released during the matches. Films have to release and both have to co-exist. It shouldn’t happen like if cricket is happening that films can’t release. There is a separate place for films and cricket. The audience today is segmented. Having produced movies like Madras Cafe, Vicky Donor, John Abraham revealed that he didn’t want to indulge corporates in this film as well since they mostly sell soaps. John said, “We haven’t involved corporates in this film on purpose because this film is our baby. Me and Sunir Khetrapal, the co-producer of this film, we have decided to finance this film and distribute in various territories. Though many distributors have joined us, the interest of this film actually is very high among the distributors. But we have taken a consigns decision that creatively or marketing wise only three people will be involved in this film, Nishikant Kamat, Sunir and John Abraham. The corporate people mostly sell soaps, so it is difficult for them to think creatively, so we decided to do it ourself. We have incorporated every idea we thought of and we are happy and the response is exceptional.” (Also read: John Abraham: I can think and offer you different films)
This is the first time that Nishikant will be seen acting in his own film. He feels that he has done a mistake and won’t act in his films again. When asked what was the most difficult thing while doing both simultaneously, he said, “While doing both my concentration get divided. As a director, you are sitting in front of your monitor or talking to your camera person or the actor and see if everything is in place. Me and John have a great connect, so we just discussed briefly about the scene, then I used to go back and say action and used to fully concentrate on John. Now imagine a scenario when I’m standing with John in a scene and have to still look at all these things. It is very tough and scary. I did it by mistake.”
“It is very difficult and very scary. I did a mistake, and won’t do it again,” he added. The actor/director also cleared that he won’t act in his film again to which John added that Nishikant would definitely get more offers after this film.
The leading lady of the film Shruti Haasan has been missing from the promotions and is very little to be seen in the trailer as well. Elaborating on her character in Ricky Handsome, Nishikant said, “Shruti Haasan is in the film throughout. Though she has worked for few days with us, but you will not feel that she is not seen in many frames in the movie. She comes in such places, that she keeps the movie going.”
Nishikant Kamat also revealed that they had earlier decided to name the movie Johnny Handsome, but thinking that the title might become to personal, they came to the conclusion of naming it Rocky Handsome.
The actor director duo is certain that the film will be liked by the female audience as well since they got good response from women after one of the screenings. John said, “The girls of today’s generation are completely different from that old generation where girls used to hide their faces on seeing action. When the girls came out of the screening, we asked them what did they like the most, they said the emotions are beautiful but we loved the action. We were surprised since girls get attracted towards romantic cinema. Out action is more poetry in motion.”
The actor ended by saying that Rocky Handsome is a credible film.
