Recalling his family’s connections with the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) over three generations, Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan said on Wednesday (March 2) in Varanasi that he wished that his daughter Aaradhya continues the tradition of maintaining this association with the university.
“My family, my father, grandfather all have a special association with BHU and I even hope that my daughter Aaradhya would too carry this family tradition forward and will uphold the Bachchan family’s association with BHU in future,” Abhishek said while inaugurating an inter-faculty youth festival “Spandan” at the campus.
Addressing nearly 10,000 students, Abhishek revealed that his grandfather Harivansh Rai Bachchan had recited his famous book ‘Madhushala’ for the first time on the BHU campus. “My dream to visit BHU has come true today,” he said, adding that he will ask his father Amitabh Bachchan and wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to visit the university next year.

University spokesperson Rajesh Singh said the late Harivansh Rai Bachchan was himself a BHU student and stayed at Birla hostel on the campus. He added that Amitabh, too, had visited BHU campus nearly 15 years ago.
Urging the students to bring global fame to BHU, Abhishek said they should not ask what the country can do for them, but think on how they can deliver for the nation. “Students must not lose sight of their own cultural heritage and they must take up the responsibility and must follow the rich culture and tradition of their country”, he said.
The actor had also visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple earlier in the day and offered prayers.
The four-day event was later presided over by Vice Chancellor G C Tripathi.
