Ace photographer Atul Kasbekar said that Sonam Kapoor starrer Neerja’s box office run came as a happy surprise to him and is elated with response from the audiences.
Ace photographer Atul Kasbekar, who made his debut as a producer with Neerja starring Sonam Kapoor, said that the film’s box office run came as a happy surprise to him and is elated with response from the audiences.
“I was quite confident that the movie would be acclaimed critically but the box office run is a happy surprise,” Atul Kasbekar told IndianExpress.com.

Neerja, which released in 671 screens in India, has now been extended to 200 additional screens due to its box office success.
Talking about the promotional strategy, Atul Kasbekar said, “It’s a normal strategy for movies like this. It was also done for Barfi which was released with much bigger star cast like Ranbir Kapoor. It was also released in limited screens and then as the demand grew, the screen counts were increased in the following week.”
Neerja has collected Rs. 43.47 crore so far and is moving rapidly towards the Rs 50 crore mark.

Talking about change in audience’s perspective towards hindi cinema and their acceptance of films from different genres, Atul Kasbekar said, “I think the audience is more interested in content. You have to give a good reason to audience to get up and go to theatres. Instead of taking an option available of entertainment on their iPad, computer, phone or TV, you have to give them a very good reason to go to the theaters.”
After Neerja, Atul Kasbekar and the film’s director Ram Madhvani, will once again be teaming up for their next venture and are currently working on creating a good script.

“No details as yet. We just have an idea that we have to work on. But just like Neerja, we want to work on creating a good script first because we believe that the only reason to make a movie is to be very very happy with the script. So we have not done any talks with the studios, we have not done any talks with any actors. We just want to make a great script first. And it’s a comedy,” Atul Kasbekar said.
